Frequently Asked Questions
The questions below are the most commonly asked questions regarding the Elective Prenatal Ultrasound packages offered by Gentle Touch Imaging. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call us at (307)266-3D4D (3343) or email us jessica@gentletouchimaging.com.
What is a 3D/4D Elective Prenatal Ultrasound?
The traditional ultrasounds that most people are familiar with are black and white 2D ultrasounds. This older technology is great for viewing a baby’s organs and skeletal features, but not so great for obtaining pictures of baby’s face. Today’s more sophisticated technology allows parents to view their baby in 3 dimensions with full color. In 3D imaging, spectacular detail of baby’s face and other body parts can be obtained. The 4th dimension is time. This is the dimension that provides us with a live, detailed view of baby’s activities in the womb.
Are there any risks to me or my baby?
No. Extensive studies have been conducted for nearly four decades on the safety of ultrasounds and they have been proven not to cause any maternal or fetal harm. In fact, ultrasounds are merely sound waves emitted at a low output level. The ultrasonic waves in a conventional 2D scan are precisely the same type and intensity of those in a 3D/4D scan.

Does this take the place of my doctor’s ultrasound?
DEFINITELY NOT! We at Gentle Touch Imaging 3D/4D Ultrasound provide elective prenatal ultrasound sessions to further enhance the prenatal bonding between parent and baby. The health and well-being of mother and baby is our top priority. Therefore, we strongly encourage that all mothers are under the care of a licensed physician. In addition, we recommend that all mothers undergo a medical, diagnostic ultrasound with their healthcare provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies and to diagnose any other pregnancy related issues.
When is the best time to come in for my 3D/4D ultrasound?
To obtain the best possible images, Gentle Touch Imaging recommends that you visit our facility between 24 and 34 weeks gestation. However, excellent images can be obtained as early as 18 and, in some cases, up until delivery. For twins, we recommend scans prior to 30 weeks, as it gets a little crowded in there closer to term. Typically, 22 to 26 weeks is the optimal time frame for the best images with twins.
What type of equipment is used at Gentle Touch Imaging?
We at Gentle Touch Imaging spent countless hours shopping for the best ultrasound system in the industry which would provide the most astounding fetal images. We ultimately decided on the G.E. Voluson 730 Expert. If you would like more information about this system, please click on the following link for the product brochure.

Can my family and friends join me for this experience?
Absolutely! Our ultrasound viewing room is designed to comfortably seat mom and up to twelve additional guests. In addition, everyone will have a spectacular view of the show on the two, giant flat screen televisions. This is a wonderful way for everyone to get together and share the excitement and joy of the new baby with the expecting parents.
How long are the ultrasound sessions?
Our ultrasound sessions range from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on your package. Please plan for an additional 10 to 15 minutes after the scan to allow us to complete your package.
Do you guarantee that we’ll obtain beautiful images of my baby?
Absolutely! We guarantee to give you the best possible images of your unborn baby. In fact, all ultrasounds performed before the 36th week of pregnancy come with a satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with the images obtained during your session, we will gladly reschedule you for a second visit at no additional cost to you. . There are many factors to achieving the best 3D images of your baby. The quality of images depends on the gestational age, baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid, placental location and mother’s body type. Sometimes if baby is face down, or if her face is obscured due to her position, we’ll pause the scan and give mom and baby a little snack in the hopes that baby will assume a more favorable position for viewing.
What can I do to achieve the best images?
Staying well hydrated throughout your pregnancy, and especially within the 3 days prior to your appointment, will help produce better images. We suggest drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day. Secondly, relax and have fun! Our whole purpose at Gentle Touch Imaging is to pamper mom and give her the relaxation and enjoyment that she deserves.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. All ultrasound sessions are scheduled by appointment only.
